ABOUT JAY HICKEY
Jay Hickey is a criminal defense attorney at Gallian Firm with real trial experience and a reputation for staying composed when the pressure is highest.
Before becoming a lawyer, Jay graduated cum laude from Texas Tech University and served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy. During three tours at sea, he learned how to lead, make difficult decisions, and remain focused in high-stakes environments. Those qualities now define his work in the courtroom.
Jay has represented clients facing serious criminal charges throughout North Texas. He has tried multiple jury trials and secured a complete acquittal for a client whose freedom was on the line.
Jay is a disciplined and strategic trial lawyer. He knows how to break down complicated evidence, identify the weaknesses in the government’s case, and present a clear, credible story to a jury. He does not get rattled, does not lose sight of the facts, and does not back away from difficult cases.
His clients value his direct communication, steady presence, and willingness to take ownership of the case. Jay understands that criminal charges can affect every part of a person’s life, and he approaches each case with the seriousness and intensity those stakes demand.

Q&A’S WITH JAY
What brought you to this professional career path?
I am a person who values rules and morals, so the law seemed like a natural fit for me. Our job in criminal defense is to hold the government accountable, to make sure they are following the rules, protecting our client’s rights, and fighting to make sure that our clients get fair treatment.
What are some of your hobbies outside of the office?
In my free time I love going to the gym, reading, and I’m a huge movie buff. I spend most of my downtime doing activities with my wife and dog. I love doing all types of physical activities like hiking, rock climbing, and boxing. I’m also a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, BEAR DOWN!
What’s something interesting about you that not many people know?
Around the office, I’m known as the second-biggest Tom Cruise fan. I’ve watched Top Gun: Maverick at least 17 times, can quote far more of it than I should admit, and have nearly perfected the signature Tom Cruise run.
What do you enjoy most about working in the legal profession?
My two favorite parts of working on a case are when we first get the evidence and then the trial itself. When we first get the evidence, I get to go through all of it like a detective, looking for little things that others might miss, and strategizing how to break the prosecution’s case apart. When we get to trial, I love that I get to stand and be the voice for our clients, telling their stories, and defending them against what can feel like an overwhelming government force.
Why did you join Gallian Firm?
I knew I had to work at this firm. The way they practice law is different from any other firm I’ve ever seen. Lawyers as a whole have an obligation to “zealously advocate” for their clients and no one does that better than the people at Gallian Firm. Whereas most law firms only care about getting as many clients and as much money as possible, the people here truly care about the clients. The amount of attention and compassion they put into every single case is astounding and goes well above what you would find at most law firms. I am blessed to have been hired here and honored to serve a part of this team.
